The treatment

Indication and principle

Platelet-rich plasma is prepared from your own blood, then reinjected to stimulate the follicles still present.

The stage of the alopecia determines the result: the more advanced it is, the less PRP can do. An assessment first looks for an associated cause — iron deficiency, thyroid disorder, medication.

Anatomy

Areas treated

  • Temporal recessions
  • Frontoparietal line
  • Vertex (crown)
  • Areas with a follicle still present
In practice

How a session proceeds

Blood draw
Blood taken, then centrifuged at the practice.
Anaesthesia
Anaesthetic cream depending on the case; scalp not very sensitive.
Sensations
Multiple fine-needle pinpricks. Tolerance is generally good.

PRP is not performed on the day of the first consultation. Assessment, indication and plan are determined after examination; a reflection period separates assessment from procedure.

Plain speaking

What this treatment does not do

  • It does not regrow hair where the follicle has disappeared.
  • It does not replace a hair transplant.
  • It does not treat scarring alopecia.
  • It does not guarantee any densification.
